Genie 101 : Video Analytics

When first developed analytics required powerful servers with complex infrastructures, widely popular for corporate or government systems.

The past decade has seen the reliability and effectiveness of surveillance video analytics vastly improve, making accessibility of the software gain widespread growth. Developments in camera and server processing technology have allowed for analytics to run on them alone even when running multiple video streams or other applications.

As an accurate surveillance solution analytics can be used by users in a wide variety of environments including airports, bars, retail outlets, stadiums and so on. End users gain invaluable analytical data that can be intelligently used to strengthen business operations, health & safety, personnel management, video evidence retrieval and archiving of relevant information.

The capabilities of Genie’s WISH surveillance systems are significantly boosted with the introduction of its new analytics firmware. Built into Genie’s latest H.265 network recorders from their flagship WISH range. The analytics firmware provides its users’ more reliable information benefiting from the following features:

Analytics Set up
  • Camera Mask – An alarm based event is generated if something is placed over the front of a camera. For example someone’s hand or an object
  • Camera Scene Change – An alarm based event is generated if a cameras field of view suddenly changes – for example, if someone suddenly turns a camera to face a wall.
  • Object Added or Removed from the location – By programming predefined areas, objects either left or added to the region are detected and will generate an alarm. This would be ideal for securing objects of value or areas where items/vehicles shouldn’t be left unattended.

  • Intrusion Detection – Detects when a person or vehicle enters the area. Ideal for monitoring areas normally with a low footfall
  • Line Crossing (A>B) (B>A) (A<>B) – A “tripwire” application that detects moving objects that cross a virtual line, making it possible to automatically trigger an alarm based on an event. Users can set up a maximum of 4 different tripwires, defining the direction they are triggered. This is ideal for monitoring entry and exit points or areas where vehicles/ people should be travelling in a certain direction.

With a user friendly GUI setup is easy, allowing users to select the camera and the intelligence feature they would like to run. Depending on the feature the user can set the parameters they would like to monitor, set trigger times, chose from a video pop up alert, email alert or both. Once settings are saved, the user can watch as the video intelligence takes action on their monitor.

Analytics Set Up

The software helps to highlight the unusual from the ordinary, providing the operator with reliable information that helps identifies suspicious activity. Which in turn helps reaction time and quickly report the incident to a response team or emergency services.

Analytics Alarm Screen

Users will benefit from the support of Genie’s FREE analytics software features when using the combination of H.265 cameras that operate with the 4.1.0 firmware (compatible models listed below) and, NVRs from the flagship WISH range. Creating an intelligent surveillance solution to keep both personnel and assets safe.

Analytics is currently available with the following cameras from Genie’s flagship WISH range: WIP4BV5 Series, WIP4BVL5, WIP4EB5, WIP4EBV5 Series, WIP4VD5, WIP4VDV5 Series.

The FREE analytics features are supported by Genie WISH H.265 Network Recorders purchased from 1st July onwards. For more information on our H.265 Analytics and other products, please speak to our sales team on 01707 330 541.

Genie 101 : Network Switches

A well-designed transmission infrastructure can optimize a security system and, save on installation and operating costs. When transmission over long distances is required ethernet extenders or fiber optics are often implemented.

The use of PoE enables system integrators to easily set up the surveillance cameras without worrying about power distribution. A technology developed to deliver power through CAT5 cable. Ensuring a high quality IP image transmission Genie’s IP transmission devices employ the latest PoE technology, that are web-smart and support fiber optic transmission. With no network configuration required, the connectivity saves installation time and money. Switches allow for local connection to as little as 4 cameras all the way up to 24. What’s more Genie’s network switches have two modes: Default and CCTV. When transmission over long distances is required ethernet extenders or fiber optics are often implemented.

Network Switches 16+

Default mode enables the switch to work as an industry standard PoE switch, with communications between each of the PoE ports. The downlink ports will have maximum bandwidth of 100Mbps and the transmission distance depending on the cable quality, can be up to 100m with PoE (Up  to 30W). CCTV mode offers the user a further three unique features to the default industry standard.

The downlink ports will not communicate with the other downlink ports, they will only communicate with the uplink port, this function provides the advantage of further security for example; with three cameras installed outside, and another installed inside – set to default mode where each downlink port could communicate with each other, if an intruder destroys an easily accessible outdoor camera and uses a laptop to connect to the downlink port, they will be able to access all of the cameras and NVR fairly easily. However if enabled to CCTV mode, they won’t be able to access any cameras on the downlink ports because the downlink ports can not communicate with each other, they only transmit data to the uplink port (NVR).

Topology Network SwitchesThe downlink speed is reduced to 10Mbps per downlink port when CCTV mode is enabled, however the cable distance is increased to 250m with up to 30 watts PoE when using high quality cable. Running the switch in CCTV mode could prevent instability caused by layer 2 routing loop. This prevents any interference during transmission, with installers and users benefiting from much smoother and clearer images.
Network Switches

“The switches enable installers to provide combined PoE & Ethernet transmission for a range of our IP systems. With a compact, easy installation design, by providing the customer with two choices so they can utilise on the switch’s capabilities, catering to their needs. Giving them great peace of mind.” – Lee Rhodes, Technical Director

On models such as the IP8ESP CCTV mode can simply activated with a flick of a switch. Turning off communication between the PoE ports but, allowing communication between each downlink port and the 2 Up-Link ports. Extending the transmission distance by up to 250m and increasing power to each camera. Installers and users using the IP16ESP and IP24ESP models benefit from an interface that allows the to see real-time information about their surveillance network, such as device status, PoE consumption data and network bandwidth utilisation. With full control over the PoE ports, cameras can be configured and managed.

What’s more all of Genie’s network switches have gold plated connector pins and 6KV Protection, meaning a much improved connectivity whilst helping to prevent an electrical fire during a power surge. Explore and discover the full benefits of Genie’s network switches range today.

Genie and Micro-Vision Protect Superdry in London

Expanding security equipment supplier Genie CCTV Ltd, in conjunction with Gloucester based system integrator Micro-Vision Fire and Security Ltd, has supplied and installed a comprehensive CCTV surveillance system for SuperGroup Plc’s flagship Superdry store in London’s Regent Street.

SuperGroup, owner of Superdry and one of the country’s fastest growing international branded clothing companies, operates a multi-channel business through a combination of standalone stores, concessions, e-Commerce and its UK and International Wholesale operations.

As part of an overall project to upgrade all Superdry stores, the system for Regent Street consists of 28 Genie ASD fully functional dome cameras, 62 Genie MD83SPX Pixim internal Cameras, nine Genie Micro Cannon Cameras and two Genie Vandal Resistant Domes. The system is controlled via eight Genie GDVRH-616 DVRs and displayed on Genie LM-19PRO/LED monitors.
